AKAROA DAY TOURS
NEW ZEALAND'S ONLY FRENCH SETTLEMENT
Akaroa is a picturesque village on the Banks Peninsula, rich in history and known for its blend of French and British influences. Originally settled by Māori, it became the site of New Zealand’s only French colony in 1840, leaving a lasting legacy seen in the town’s architecture, street names, and vibrant culture. Its charming waterfront, boutique shops, galleries, and cafes reflect both its colonial heritage and creative local spirit.
A must-visit destination on New Zealand’s South Island, Akaroa offers a perfect mix of history, nature, and adventure. Visitors can explore the scenic harbor on cruises, swim with Hector’s dolphins – one of the world’s rarest dolphins – or discover native wildlife on the nearby walking tracks. With its tranquil atmosphere, delicious local food, and breathtaking views of the surrounding bays, Akaroa provides an unforgettable experience just a short drive from Christchurch.
